Buner receives 24 disaster-resilient schools under safety initiative
PESHAWAR: Authorities officially handed over 24 newly renovated, disaster-resilient schools in Buner district, marking a major milestone in improving educational safety.
The Disaster Resilient School Infrastructure (DRSI) project, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and jointly implemented by UN-Habitat and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led the initiative.
Under this project, teams are upgrading 150 schools across in eight districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These are: Buner, Malakand, Peshawar, Swat, Lower Chitral, Upper Chitral, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir. These improvements will provide safer learning environments for over 30,000 students.
“This project transforms schools into symbols of resilience,” said a UNDP representative.
