BYC continues sit-in even after agreement with govt

Marine Drive Dharna causes road blockades, hurdles yet to be removed from highways.

GWADAR: Even after reaching an agreement with the government, the Baloch Yakjihati Committee has continued its protest sit-in in the coastal city of Balochistan, according to local media reports.

As a result of the Dharna at the Marine Drive-In, road blockades in the area and elsewhere have not been removed. Moreover, major highways in the province are still blocked creating traffic mess and inconvenience for commuters. Apart from Gwadar, the BYC activists have continued their protests in different parts of Balochistan.

As a result, supplies of essential food and other items to different cities remain suspended and according to media reports Quetta was running out of essential food items and fuel. Moreover, internet and phone services remain suspended in areas where the BYC continues its protests.

Last week, the deputy commissioner of Gwadar and the BYC leader Mahrang Baloch had signed an agreement after the government accepted the demands of the protesters.

The deputy commissioner said today that all the demands have been met including the release of the arrested BYC activists and abolition of FIRs against them. However, even then the protesters were not dispersing.

Home Minister Balochistan Ziaullah Langoo said that the government even had fulfilled those demands of the protesters which were not part of the agreement but the BYC was still holding the protests.

He appealed to the people of Gwadar to help end the protest fir the sake of the development of the area.
