Car Bomb Attack in Kabul, 9 killed, 20 injured including govt. Official

At least nine people were killed and 20 others, including a senior government official, were injured in a car bomb attack by terrorists in the capital, Kabul.

Afghan Interior Minister Masood Andrabi told media that the car bomb had targeted senior government figure and lawmaker Khan Mohammad Wardak, but he survived the attack, but 20 people, including women and children were injured.

Continuing, Masood Andrabi said it was too early to say whether the explosive-laden vehicle had been parked on the way to Khan Muhammad Wardak or if a suicide bomber had driven towards the government convoy. No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Violence in Afghanistan, especially bombings, has escalated over the past few weeks. This tense situation comes at a time when talks are underway between the Afghan government and the Taliban to end the nearly 20-year-old war.

According to foreign news agencies, bomb blasts have also been reported in Afghanistan’s Logar, Nangarhar, Helmand and Badakhshan provinces, killing and injuring several security personnel and civilians.

A rickshaw bomb blast in Ghazni province on Friday killed 15 civilians, including 11 children, however, Afghan Interior Ministry claimed that the Taliban had carried out 487 suicide attacks and 507 bombings in the past three months, 437 Civilians were killed and 1,049 were injured in these attacks.
