ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s auto sector has shown strong recovery, with vehicle sales rising sharply due to government measures and lower interest rates.
According to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), car sales increased by 46% during the first four months of the current fiscal year. A total of 59,600 vehicles were sold, compared to 40,693 units in the same period last year.
The report highlights that a drop of 11 percentage points in the interest rate, from 22% to 11%, has boosted car financing and consumer demand.
Sales increased across nearly all categories of vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. However, sales of agricultural tractors declined to 5,867 units during the period.
Meanwhile, jeep and pickup sales grew by 67% to 16,769 units, truck sales surged 115% to 2,308 units, and bus sales rose 59% to 322 units. Sales of motorcycles and rickshaws also jumped 30% to 597,025 units.
