Catholic School Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Dozens Injured

MINNEAPOLIS: A tragic shooting erupted Wednesday morning at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, USA, leaving three dead and at least 20 injured.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Central Time during a scheduled all-school Mass, just two days after the school resumed classes for the fall semester.

Witnesses reported a gunman opening fire from outside the church, targeting children seated in the pews. The assailant, described as a man in his early 20s, was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, and fired dozens of rounds.

Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed in the attack, while 17 others were injured, including 14 children. Several of the injured were taken to local hospitals, with four requiring surgery. Seven children remain in critical condition.

The shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound behind the church, authorities said. The motive for the attack remains under investigation, with law enforcement agencies including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security involved in the ongoing inquiry.

The school serves approximately 395 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Parents and families gathered outside the school in distress, seeking information and trying to reunite with their children. The community has been left in shock and mourning, with local leaders expressing deep sorrow.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the violence, calling the incident a “horrific act of violence” and urging support for the victims and their families.

This shooting marks the fourth violent incident in Minneapolis since Tuesday, adding to a spate of local tragedies. Authorities have pledged to investigate fully and provide assistance to those affected.

The city remains on high alert, and officials continue to emphasize vigilance and community support in the wake of this devastating attack.
