CDWP Approves seven rojects, refers major schemes to ECNEC

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) held a meeting in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal.

The CDWP approved seven development projects in total. Out of these, three projects worth Rs. 10.05 billion were approved, while four large projects worth around Rs. 91 billion were sent to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Planning Commission, federal ministries, and provincial governments.

The approved projects include the development of the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi at a cost of Rs. 3.38 billion, and the establishment of the Sukkur IBA University Campus at Mirpurkhas for Rs. 1.7 billion. Another approved project is the revised Gwadar Safe City Project worth Rs. 4.96 billion, which will be funded jointly by the federal and Balochistan governments on a 50:50 basis.

Among the projects referred to ECNEC is a major sewerage system project from Larechs Colony to Gulshan-e-Ravi in Lahore, worth Rs. 49.27 billion. It will be funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth Project, revised to Rs. 12.47 billion, has also been sent to ECNEC for consideration. This project is supported by the World Bank.

Two road infrastructure projects were also referred to ECNEC. One is the dualization of the Sialkot–Eminabad Road costing Rs. 12.97 billion. The other is the rehabilitation and upgradation of the Jhaljao–Bela Road in Balochistan, valued at Rs. 16.21 billion.

These projects aim to improve education, security, transport, tourism, and urban infrastructure across the country. The government says it remains committed to promoting economic growth and providing better public services through these development initiatives.
