Center, provinces should devise plan to eliminate terrorism: PM
Stresses need to equip police with modern equipment besides ensuring merit-based induction.
ISLAMABAD: The center and provinces should formulate a plan to eliminate terrorism in order to put the country on track to progress and development on a sustainable basis.
This was stated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while chairing a meeting of the apex committee on National Action Plan on Friday.
He said that foreign hands had been hatching conspiracies by aiding and backing terror elements against Pakistan, especially in Balochistan. However, he said Pakistan had made efforts to increase the capacity of counter-terrorism departments in provinces, especially in Punjab. He said that there was still a need for equipping police with modern equipment and ensuring merit based induction in the force.
“Propaganda campaign and venom being spread against Pakistan on social media is a challenge on the digital front that also needs to be countered,” he noted.
The meeting was briefed by officials concerned about the overall security situation in the country and steps being taken to eliminate terror elements and expose their backers.
Pakistan has faced repeated attacks on its security forces especially in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government is of the view that terror elements hiding in Afghanistan were involved in these attacks.
