China endorses Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns

Beijing urges Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue to resolve their issues.

ISLAMABAD: China has reiterated its full support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts, endorsing Islamabad’s “legitimate security concerns” amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar of this support during a telephonic conversation.

In a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it was emphasized that “combating terrorism is a shared responsibility of all nations.”

The statement added that China will continue to support Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and efforts for regional stability. Wang Yi also expressed support for a fair and timely investigation into the recent Pahalgam incident.

The Chinese Foreign Minister urged both Pakistan and India to exercise restraint and to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic means to resolve their issues.

It is worth noting that four days ago, an attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir resulted in the death of 26 tourists. India, blaming Pakistan for the incident, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and took several other strict measures.

In response, Pakistan adopted a firm strategy, suspending all trade with India, closing its airspace to Indian airlines, and declaring Indian diplomats persona non grata, ordering them to leave the country.

Pakistan also offered an independent and impartial international investigation into the Pahalgam attack and, through effective diplomacy, highlighted its position globally. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar contacted foreign ministers around the world to brief them on the situation.
