ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has expressed concern over the lack of basic judicial infrastructure in the remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and emphasized the need for measures to reduce regional disparities and improve access to justice.
In a meeting the Law and Justice Commission discussed the issue with the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Secretary of Finance Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also in attendance.
A statement issued by the Supreme Court said the meeting focused on the use of video-link facilities by district administration officers in sensitive areas. Instructions were given to ensure the immediate availability of such services where necessary.
Chief Justice Afridi expressed concern over the shortage of judicial infrastructure in remote regions and stressed the importance of targeted, urban-centered measures to address regional inequality and ensure better access to justice for the people.
He further emphasized that the judicial infrastructure of the future should be equipped with modern facilities, with a particular focus on gender-sensitive and women-friendly amenities.
During the meeting, a briefing was provided on the ongoing national initiatives under the Access to Justice Fund managed by the Law and Justice Commission. The Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court briefed on the establishment of family court blocks in Peshawar and Swat.
The meeting reaffirmed the joint commitment of the judiciary and provincial government to strengthen judicial infrastructure, enhance public facilities, and ensure equal access to justice in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in accordance with constitutional requirements and national policy goals.
