RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met today with Saima Saleem, a visually impaired diplomat serving at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
According to ISPR, Despite losing her sight at an early age, Ms. Saleem has risen to become one of Pakistan’s most respected voices in international diplomacy.
In a heartfelt and inspiring meeting, the COAS paid rich tribute to Ms. Saleem’s extraordinary achievements, noting that her success—achieved in the face of a significant physical impairment—is a testament to her grit, intellect, and unwavering commitment to the country.
“Ms. Saima Saleem’s determination and resolve have not only helped her overcome personal challenges, but have also brought great honor to Pakistan on the world stage,” said the COAS. He described her as a national asset and an inspiration to millions, especially to persons with disabilities who often face social and structural barriers.
The COAS acknowledged her efforts in effectively advocating Pakistan’s position on critical international matters, including exposing state-sponsored terrorism emanating from India—a key source of regional instability.
Ms. Saleem briefed the COAS on her work at the UN, where she continues to break barriers in a field not often accessible to persons with visual impairments. Her ability to navigate complex diplomatic landscapes through assistive technologies and deep knowledge was especially noted.
She also shared her literary writings with the COAS, further underscoring the breadth of her intellect and creativity.
The meeting served as a powerful reminder that physical limitations need not hinder excellence. The Pakistan Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and uplifting individuals with disabilities, enabling them to fully participate in the nation’s progress.
