Court gives police one week to produce Sheikh Rashid

Rawalpindi police warned that FIR would be registered against the police if they failed to produce the former federal minister.

RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench on Monday morning gave the police one week to produce former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed with one week otherwise an FIR would be registered against the police.

Justice Sadaqat Ali of the LHC  passed the direction to the police after taking up for hearing a petition filed by Sheikh Rashid’s nephew seeking his recovery after police and other law enforcement agencies personnel took him away from his Bahria Town residence on the night of Sept 17.

Since then, there has been no whereabouts of the former minister who is an ally of jailed prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan.

When the case was taken up by the judge today, Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Khuram Ali appeared before the court.

The judge asked the RPO why Sheikh Rashid had not been produced and where he was.

In reply, the RPO expressed his ignorance and sought 15 days. The judge said 15 days were too long and asked him to bring the detainee in court within two days.

However, on the request of the defense lawyer, the court gave one week to the police and adjourned the hearing.

The court warned that if the police failed to produce Sheikh Rashid in the court within one week, an FIR would be registered against the police.
