ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Friday temporarily lifted the ban on the YouTube channels of senior journalists Matiullah Jan and Asad Toor.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka passed the order while hearing appeals filed by the two journalists.
They had challenged an earlier ruling by Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, which directed the blocking of 27 YouTube channels on a request from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
During the hearing, the journalists’ legal teams argued that the channels were taken down without due process. They pointed out that no prior notice was issued, nor were the journalists given an opportunity to be heard—violating their constitutional right to a fair trial under Article 10-A.
In its written order, the court acknowledged the lack of notice and suspended the magistrate’s directive regarding the channels of Jan and Toor. A notice was also issued to the Cyber Crime Agency, seeking a formal response by July 21.
