LAHORE: A nationwide crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers has begun ahead of the party’s planned protests and rallies on August 5, which are being held to demand the release of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to sources, police in Lahore have arrested at least seven PTI workers. In Mianwali, a series of raids are being carried out across the district, targeting party members and organizers involved in preparing for the demonstrations.
One of the key arrests includes Chairman of Union Council Shahbaz Khail, Tariq Khan Ahmad Khaniya, who recently presided over a convention organized to mobilize supporters for the protest.
PTI spokesperson strongly condemned the arrests, calling them a sign of the government’s panic. He reaffirmed that despite the pressure tactics, party workers across the country, including Mianwali, will come out in full force to participate in the protests.
“The arrests reflect the government’s nervousness,” the spokesperson said. “But our workers remain steadfast and determined to stand up for their cause.”
The PTI has vowed to continue its peaceful political struggle and mobilization efforts despite the mounting pressure.
