Currency Smuggling Case: Big relief for model girl Ayan Ali from IHC

ISLAMABAD: Model girl Ayan Ali, the main accused in a currency smuggling case, got a big relief from the Islamabad High Court.

Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani of the Supreme Court, while delivering a reserved judgment on the appeal filed for investigation under the Anti-Money Laundering Act in the currency smuggling case against Ian Ali, rejected the petition of the Customs Department.

Earlier, a special court in customs matters had also rejected a petition seeking permission under the Anti-Money Laundering Act against Model Girl, after which customs officials challenged the special court’s decision in IHC.

In the appeal, the customs had taken the position that model girl Ian Ali had laundered crores of rupees on a large scale through currency smuggling. The investigation should be allowed.

IHC had reserved its judgment after hearing arguments on an appeal filed by customs officials, which today rejected Ian Ali’s request for an inquiry under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
