ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has officially been granted the authority to freeze or restore properties, with approval from the Director General (DG) being mandatory for such actions.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the new rules for the agency have been formally enforced and shared with the NCCIA.
Under these rules, the agency will be able to seek assistance from international organizations for investigations and will also cooperate with provincial governments and intelligence agencies. Specialized units will be established, including an Anti-Online Financial Fraud Unit and an Online Child Abuse Unit.
The rules further state that inquiries or investigations may be initiated based on source reports, but only with the approval of the DG. It has also been made mandatory for NCCIA personnel to wear a uniform, while an internal accountability unit will be set up within the agency to ensure transparency and oversight.
The NCCIA will conduct its investigations under the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) as well as the relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
