KABIL: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a meeting with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in trade, transit and security.
According to a statement from Foreign Office, both leaders emphasized the importance of regional economic development and reiterated their commitment to implementing connectivity projects aimed at improving cross-border infrastructure and integration.
Ishaq Dar was accompanied by the minister for railways and the special representative for Afghanistan. The primary focus of the visit is the advancement of the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (UAP) railway project, a major initiative to link Central and South Asia through rail.
As part of the visit, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are expected to sign a trilateral framework agreement for conducting a joint feasibility study of the railway project. The proposed railway line is seen as a strategic step toward improving regional trade and providing landlocked Central Asian countries with access to global markets.
The meeting reflects Pakistan’s continued engagement with regional partners to promote economic cooperation and connectivity. Both sides expressed hope that such projects would contribute to long-term peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
