Dar Highlights Pakistan’s UN Success, Regional Diplomacy

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that a resolution submitted by Pakistan was recently unanimously approved by the United Nations Security Council, a milestone that comes after several years without such consensus.

Dar added that during his July visit to the United States, Pakistan held the chairmanship of the UN Security Council. “After a long time, our resolution was approved unanimously, and it is now being highlighted across international forums,” he said.

During his US trip, Dar met with the US Secretary of State to discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues, including developments in the Middle East and Iran. He also held meetings with the UN President, Secretary-General, and representatives from Palestine, Kuwait, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.

Following the United States, Dar traveled to the United Kingdom, where he met with expert groups regarding the Indus Waters Treaty. He also announced that direct flights between Pakistan and the UK have resumed, with nearly three weekly flights from Manchester planned, and the national airline preparing to operate them.

The Deputy Prime Minister also visited Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Speaking about Afghanistan, he said the trilateral meeting in Kabul was highly productive and that Afghanistan appreciated the implementation of commitments made during his visit on April 19.

“This achievement at the UN Security Council is significant for Pakistan after years without a unanimously approved resolution,” Dar concluded, emphasizing the importance of Pakistan’s growing diplomatic engagements.
