PESHAWAR: At a meeting between the chief minister of Khyber Pakthunkhwa and members of the Bannu protest Jirga, it was decided that the provincial apex committee will take a decision on the demands of the protesters over the Bannu incident.
In the meanwhile, the protest sit-in in Bannu will continue. This was decided at a meeting of the Jirga members with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in Peshawar.
The protest sit-in entered fourth day on Tuesday over firing by law enforcement agencies on a peace march held in Bannu in which four people were killed and scores of others injured.
The head of the Jirga Nasir Khan Bangash told media after meeting in Peshawar that the chief minister listened to their demands and promised to present them to the apex committee for a decision.
He said that five members of the Jirga would also be invited to the meeting of the apex committee in Peshawar.
The chief minister will visit the sit-in site in Bannu and inform the protesters about the decision of the apex committee on Friday, he added.
The demands of the protesters included opposition to the Azme Istihkam operation and elimination of all militant groups without discrimination.
The protesters are also demanding more powers to the police besides enhancing its nighttime patrolling.
Moreover, they say that instead of security forces the Counter-Terrorism Department should conduct operations against terrorists.
