LAHORE: Dense fog has engulfed several areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh following recent rainfall, significantly reducing visibility and making driving conditions extremely hazardous, authorities said.
Due to near-zero visibility and the heightened risk of accidents, traffic has been suspended on several major motorways and highways.
According to officials, sections of Motorway M-1 from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Burhan, M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Balkassar, M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M-4 from Sher Shah to Pindi Bhattian, and M-5 from Rohri to Sher Shah have been closed. Traffic has also been halted on the M-11 motorway.
Motorway police advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and to use fog lights and maintain safe distances if travel is unavoidable.
Meanwhile, air quality conditions showed mixed trends. Lahore’s air quality was reported to be slightly improved, while Faisalabad and Sheikhupura recorded extremely hazardous air quality levels.
In a tragic incident linked to the dense fog, a traffic accident occurred on the Mehran Highway near Nawabshah, where multiple vehicles collided due to poor visibility. As a result, three people lost their lives.
