QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has announced the abolition of the Zakat Department in the province.
Chief Minister Bugti said that the Zakat Department distributed Rs300 million annually to the beneficiaries in Balochistan. However, he said that the department spent Rs1.6 billion every year to carry out its task of distributing the Zakat amount.
He said that the Zakat Department had 80 vehicles for the distribution of Rs300 millionĀ and the amount of Zakat had not been distributed among the deserving people for the last two years.
Bugti said that Rs300 million will be distributed to the poor through the deputy commissioners, adding there was no need to keep such a while elephant.
