Developed nations should fulfill promises on climate finance: PM

Says developing countries will $6.8 trillion by 2030 to implement less than half their current nationally determined contributions.

BAKU (AZERBAIJAN): Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called upon the donor countries to fulfill their commitment to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.

He was addressing the Climate Finance Roundtable Conference in Baku, Radio Pakistan reported.

The prime minister said that there was an urgent need to resume focus on non-debt financing solutions, enabling countries to fund climate initiatives without additional burden.

“Developing countries will need an estimated 6.8 trillion dollars by 2030 to implement less than half their current nationally determined contributions,” he told the participants.

It is important to note that Pakistan has been affected worsely by the impact of climate change that is totally not of its making.

In the last a few years, Pakistan suffered damages worth billions of dollars when floods devastated the country displacing millions of people.
