Doha: Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Talks End In Deadlock Again

DOHA: Efforts to resolve tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have once again concluded without a breakthrough, though both countries have agreed to continue upholding the existing ceasefire.

The latest round of diplomatic talks was part of a series of meetings hosted by Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, aimed at reducing hostilities following the border clashes in October.

The ceasefire agreed upon in Doha has largely remained in effect. However, follow-up negotiations held last month in Istanbul failed to produce a long-term solution. Officials from both sides told Reuters that the recent discussions were conducted under a proposal presented by Saudi Arabia.

The October border clashes resulted in multiple casualties and significantly heightened tensions between the two nations. Pakistan has demanded that the Afghan Taliban provide written assurances to take action against anti-Pakistan groups operating from Afghan territory.

Taliban representatives, however, have not agreed to this demand.

Although the talks did not yield a long-term agreement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and preventing further hostilities.
