Doha talks last chance for Gaza ceasefire: Blinken

US secretary of state says any Iranian attack on Israel would derail talks for a ceasefire.

TEL AVIV: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the talks being held in Doha in Qatar are the last chance for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The US Secretary of State was talking to media persons at the Israeli capital before going to Doha to participate in the talks. The representatives of Israel, USA, Egypt and Qatar are taking part in the negotiations.

Hamas had earlier refused to take part in the negotiations saying that there had been no positive results of the talks that were held in July this year.  Later, Hamas presented its demands and showed willingness to take part in the talks.

The US Secretary of State seemed more concerned about the release of Israeli hostages with Hamas rather than stopping Israeli forces from continuing the war which has left over 40000 Palestinians dead since October last year.

The state secretary said that the USA was making all-out offers to get the parties agree on a ceasefire in order to stop the war and get the hostages released.

He also said that there were chances that Iran may carry out  attacks on Israel following the murder of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. However, it would be a big setback to the efforts being made by different countries for a ceasefire in Gaza.
