DPM Ishaq Dar Engages in Key Multilateral Diplomacy at UNGA

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, represented the country at two important multilateral forums on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, underscoring Islamabad’s active diplomatic role in global and regional affairs.

According to Foreign Office, in the first engagement, Dar participated in high-level consultations convened by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The meeting brought together senior officials from across the Arab and Islamic world, including the Deputy Prime Ministers of Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

The leaders exchanged views on key issues before the UN General Assembly and explored ways to develop a unified and coordinated approach.

‎Speaking at the meeting, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation with Islamic countries. He emphasized the deep sense of affinity that the people of Pakistan feel toward their Muslim brethren in the Middle East and pledged Pakistan’s continued support for constructive initiatives aimed at advancing peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

Later in the day, Dar attended the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM) at the UN Headquarters.

‎Addressing the 56-member body, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Commonwealth and welcomed efforts to revitalize the organization to effectively respond to contemporary global challenges while ensuring tangible benefits for all its members.

He underscored the importance of the Commonwealth’s role as a platform for consensus-building and dialogue, particularly in an era marked by overlapping international crises.

Highlighting Pakistan’s leadership on the Commonwealth youth agenda, Dar expressed pride in advancing initiatives aimed at empowering young people to shape a more peaceful and prosperous future.
<span;>‎He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda, focusing on strengthening digital, physical, regulatory and supply chain links across the association.

Dar strongly endorsed the Commonwealth’s work on climate action, urging sustained efforts to build resilience among member states.

He further lauded the organization’s contribution to youth empowerment, digital transformation, trade and entrepreneurship, noting Pakistan’s determination to remain at the forefront of these initiatives.

The two high-profile meetings highlighted Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic engagement on multiple fronts, as the country seeks to strengthen partnerships within the Islamic world and the Commonwealth while contributing constructively to the wider deliberations at the UN General Assembly.
