ECP decision to snatch Bat from PTI restored

PTI announces to go to Supreme Court against decision of election commission.

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday evening restored the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to snatch the symbol of Bat from the embattled PTI.

Justice Ejaz Khan of the high court took up the appeal of the election commission during which the lawyers of the PTI and the ECP appeared and gave arguments.

At the outset, PTI counsel Qazi Anwar asked if the ECP could approach the high court against the court verdict.

The petition of the commission is not legal and the commission has also not uploaded the intra-party election of the PTI, he contended.

Justice Khan asked if he had filed a contempt case against the commission. The counsel said the nomination papers of many PTI candidates have been rejected and the commission did nothing.

The ECP lawyer objected to the December 26th decision of the high court without hearing the PTI.

After hearing the two sides, the court reserved its judgement and later announced it, restoring the Dec 22 decision of the ECP to take back the election symbol of the PTI.

PTI to move Supreme Court

Pakistan Tehreek Insaf on Wednesday said it would approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the decision of the ECP to strip the party of its election symbol of ‘Bat’.

The announcement was made by PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan while talking to reporters outside the Adiala jail.

He said the decision was illegal and showed biasness of the election commission. He said in such an atmosphere, elections held in the country will not be acceptable to the nation as well as the world.
