Envoy hails Pakistani tech diaspora in US as catalyst for digital growth

LOS ANGELES:  The Pakistani-American technology diaspora is one of our greatest strategic assets in advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation,” stated Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh while addressing members of the Pakistan-American Tech Council (PAKAMTECH) during a key session held at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Los Angeles.

Chaired by Ambassador Sheikh, the high-level meeting brought together over forty prominent Pakistani-American tech leaders, including senior executives, entrepreneurs, and investors from across the U.S. innovation ecosystem. Also in attendance was Consul General Mr. Asim Ali Khan, who welcomed participants and reaffirmed the Consulate’s support for bilateral technology and investment partnerships.

Ambassador Sheikh emphasized the importance of deeper collaboration between the innovation sectors of both countries. “From artificial intelligence to fintech and cloud services, Pakistani talent and entrepreneurs are making their mark globally. We want to build bridges that allow this expertise to directly benefit Pakistan’s growing digital economy,” he said.

The Council unanimously endorsed the appointment of Mr. Najeeb U. Ghauri as President of PAKAMTECH. Ambassador Sheikh welcomed the decision, noting Mr. Ghauri’s extensive experience and vision as key to advancing the Council’s mission.

Progress in Pakistan’s IT Sector: The Ambassador shared that Pakistan’s IT exports surpassed USD 3 billion in FY 2023–24, with over 70% directed to the United States. He highlighted Pakistan’s global competitiveness in software services, business process outsourcing, and emerging tech sectors.

Investment Opportunities: Attendees were briefed on government-backed initiatives and incentives designed to encourage foreign and diaspora investment. Ambassador Sheikh highlighted the roles of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) in streamlining processes for international investors.

Adoption of 2025–2026 Action Plan: The Council approved a comprehensive roadmap for the next year, including: Tech investment conferences across U.S. innovation hubs, C-level delegation visits to Pakistan, Strategic focus on emerging technologies like AI, cybersecurity, and health tech, Greater collaboration with venture capital firms and startup ecosystems.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Sheikh applauded the Council’s proactive engagement and positioned PAKAMTECH as a key pillar in Pakistan’s digital diplomacy strategy. “We view this Council not just as a network, but as a force multiplier for Pakistan’s global technology ambitions,” he said.
