BRUSSELES: The European Union has called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to end the recent tensions and start immediate negotiations.

EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas stated that in light of the recent escalation of violence in both countries, all parties must act to reduce tensions and halt hostilities. This includes cross-border attacks reported in the past 24 hours, which could have serious implications for the region.

Kallas emphasized that Afghan territory should not be used to threaten or attack other countries and called on the de facto Afghan authorities to take effective action against all terrorist groups operating in or from Afghanistan.

She also urged both sides to engage in dialogue while fully respecting international law, including human rights. Citizens and civilian infrastructure must be protected, and all possible precautions should be taken to prevent further harm to civilians.
