LONDON: A summit of European leaders has begun in Britain to express solidarity with Ukraine after US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelensky had a verbal clash during a meeting at Oval Office in White House a few days ago.
At the start of the summit in London today, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said European countries must step up defence efforts for Ukraine’s security. The security of Ukraine is essential for the stability of the entire continent.
The summit is being attended by the heads of Canada, France, Germany, Italy and other European countries, as well as NATO’s secretary general, the president of the European Commission and the European Council.
The meeting will focus on efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war and broader European defense.
Prior to the meeting, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met British Prime Minister Starmer and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to discuss the resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
At the meeting, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said it was important to avoid the risk of Western division over Ukraine, adding Britain and Italy could act as a bridge between Western countries.
