SWAT: Police in Swat have arrested former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Dr Amjad Ali and seven workers of the party in Swat on Saturday.
The police said that the PTI activists and the former minister have been arrested for holding a corner meeting without permission. After their arrest, the police shifted the PTI workers to the Ghaligay police station.
On the other hand, party leaders condemned the police for arresting the workers of the PTI for exercising their democratic right.
Meanwhile, over 30 PTI were also arrested in Lower Chitral district on the charge of criminal conspiracy against the government and state institutions. The PTI had gathered in Denin village to celebrate the birthday party chief Imran Khan during which they chanted slogans which the police said were ‘rebellious’.
The FIR lodged against PTI district president Abdul Latif and 30 workers under sections 120-A, 143 and 153-B of PPC accused them of trying to create hatred against the state and spoil the image of state institutions. The police later produced them in court which sent them on judicial remand.
