ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has confirmed that former Pakistani senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan is currently in the custody of Israeli forces but remains safe and in good health.
Mushtaq Ahmad was part of the Global Samoud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy delivering aid to Gaza.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan is in close contact with international partners to ensure the protection and safe repatriation of all Pakistani nationals aboard the flotilla.
The spokesperson underscored that diplomatic efforts are being pursued on multiple fronts to secure their release and return.
The spokesperson explained that confirmation of Mushtaq Ahmad’s detention was received through diplomatic channels in a friendly European country, which verified that he is being held by the Israeli occupation forces. These sources also assured Pakistani authorities that he is in good health and not facing any immediate danger.
According to the Foreign Office, Mushtaq Ahmad will be presented before a court in accordance with local legal procedures. Following the issuance of deportation orders, the government will take immediate steps to facilitate his swift return to Pakistan.
The ministry further confirmed that it has already arranged the return of several Pakistani nationals who had disembarked from the flotilla earlier. It also expressed gratitude to brotherly nations that cooperated and assisted in ensuring the safe return of Pakistani citizens.
Reaffirming the government’s position, the spokesperson stated that Pakistan remains fully committed to the safety and security of its citizens abroad.
He added that the repatriation of the remaining individuals is expected to be completed in the coming days, with authorities continuing to closely monitor the situation and engage relevant stakeholders.
