ISLAMABAD: Hundreds of thousands candidates filed nomination papers for national and provincial assembly seats as the extended deadline for the Feb 8 elections ended at 4:30pm on Sunday.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had given two more days to candidates for filing their papers on the request of political parties.
Rush of people was seen outside the offices of the returning officers on Sunday.
PTI candidates in different parts of the country complained that they were intimidated by rivals candidates to discourage them from filing nomination papers.
Heads of major political parties filed their papers in more than one or two constituencies.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari submitted his nomination papers for NA-194 and NA-196, Maryam Nawaz of the PML-N submitted papers for Punjab Assembly seat of PP-80, Shahpur, Nawaz Sharif’s papers were also filed at NA-130.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out from Dec 25 to Dec 30.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of the papers can be submitted until the Jan 3 and decisions on these appeals will be made by Jan 10.
The list of candidates will be displayed on Jan 11 and candidates would have the option to withdraw until Jan 12.
Election symbols will be allotted on Jan 13, and polling for the general elections will be held on Feb 8.
