ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved a decision for ministers to forego two months of their salaries as part of the National Austerity Policy.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, included chief ministers of all four provinces and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, who participated via video link.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the attendees on the policy, emphasizing measures to conserve petroleum products and implement cost-saving initiatives across government departments in light of the global economic situation.
The cabinet also discussed strategies to provide relief to deserving and low-income citizens. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed that the policy be formulated in consultation with provincial governments to ensure a coordinated national approach.
