Film by Israeli, Palestinian directors wins Oscar Award
LOS ANGELES: ‘No Other Land ‘, a film produced in collaboration between Palestinian and Israeli directors, won the Best Documentary Feature award at the Oscars.
The 97th Academy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, where the film No Other Land, based on the destruction of a Palestinian village in the West Bank, was awarded with the Best Documentary Feature.
The film co-directed by Palestinian directors Basil Idara, Hamdan Bilal, Rahel Shor and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham is the story of Palestinian director Basil Idara’s hardships and struggles in the West Bank.
Basil Idara has documented the destruction of homes and forced evictions of Palestinians by Israeli forces and settlers in his native Yathar Yatta, with Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham joining him.
After winning the award, Basil said that the film reflects this bitter reality. Which he’ve had for decades.
“I became a father two months ago, and I don’t want my daughter to live the life I’m living, in which my community and I are always faced with house demolitions, forced evictions from our homes by the Israeli army and settlers,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham, who accompanied Basil in the film, said, “We Israelis and Palestinians made this film together because it makes our voice stronger.”
Yuval Abraham also called for an end to Israeli attacks on Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
