ISLAMABAD: The 11th National Finance Commission (NFC) session started in Islamabad on Thursday with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chairing the proceedings.
In his introductory remarks, the minister said the NFC serves as a crucial constitutional platform designed to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and fiscal harmony between the federation and the provinces.
He pointed out that the 10th NFC Award had formally concluded on July 21, elevating the importance of launching the new commission’s work without delay.
He emphasized that the federal government, fully supported by the Prime Minister, was determined to ensure the timely commencement of the 11th NFC deliberations.
The minister praised the readiness of provinces to meet constitutional obligations. He highlighted the recent signing of the National Fiscal Pact, describing it as a clear demonstration of collective resolve, shared responsibility, and a unified approach toward addressing the country’s financial challenges.
He assured participants that the federal government would approach all discussions with openness and fairness, giving due regard to the perspectives and priorities of each province.
Expressing optimism, he said he anticipated the provinces to engage with the same spirit of constructive cooperation and mutual respect.
The minister further emphasized the broader role of the NFC, noting that it is central to ensuring equitable resource distribution, fiscal stability, and sustainable economic progress.
He added that the forum brings together the best financial and administrative minds from across the country, offering an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, shared insights, and informed decision-making.
Aurangzeb reaffirmed that the successful finalization of the 11th NFC Award remains the primary objective, marking an essential step toward strengthening the financial framework of the federation.
