LAHORE: A bill aimed at protecting the rights of minorities has been introduced in the Punjab Assembly, proposing five years imprisonment along with a fine for forcing someone to convert their religion.
The bill was submitted by Philobus Christopher, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Minority Affairs, as a private member.
According to the draft, anyone involved in forced religious conversion could face up to five years in prison along with a fine.
Discrimination against minority citizens in educational institutions and employment will be prohibited. The bill also states that a review of the provincial curriculum will be conducted.
It is further mentioned that the Federal Constitutional Court issued an important decision on this matter last week.
