Flour Mill Owners Reject KP Govt’s Wheat Pricing Formula

PESHAWAR: Flour mill owners have rejected the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s proposed wheat and flour pricing formula, terming it impractical and damaging to the industry.

Speaking at a press conference, President of the Flour Mills Association, Naeem Butt, said the current wheat price has reached Rs13,500 per bag, while the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased to Rs3,000. He warned that if the supply of flour from Punjab is not restored, flour prices could rise further during Ramadan.

Naeem Butt stated that the flour milling industry is already facing severe financial losses and that the government’s decision to provide only 1,500 tons of wheat is insufficient. He added that the pricing formula proposed by the KP government is unacceptable and, if implemented, would force flour mills to shut down.

“The government’s formula is not workable. We do not want to deceive the public. This policy will cripple the flour milling industry,” he said.

The association urged the government to revise its policy and take practical measures to stabilize wheat supply and flour prices ahead of Ramadan.
