ISLAMABAD: Pakistan today summoned the Afghan Deputy Head of Mission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and lodged a formal demarche over a deadly attack launched from Afghan territory that resulted in the martyrdom of four Pakistani soldiers.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan conveyed its strong protest and expressed grave concern over the continued use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups, including Fitna Al-Khawarij and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to carry out attacks inside Pakistan.
The statement said Pakistan believes that Afghan Taliban authorities are providing facilitation and safe havens to these terrorist elements. Islamabad urged the Afghan side to conduct thorough investigations, take immediate and verifiable action against all terrorist groups, and prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan.
The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and security against such threats.
Pakistan has repeatedly warned that cross-border terrorism originating from Afghanistan poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability and has called on Kabul to fulfill its international obligations in this regard.
