ACCRA: A tragic incident has been reported in Ghana where young footballer Dominic Frempong lost his life after being shot in an armed attack on a team bus following a domestic league match.
According to foreign media reports, the incident occurred when a local football club was returning after playing a Ghana Premier League match. Armed assailants allegedly intercepted the team bus and opened fire.
During the attack, the driver attempted to reverse the bus, while players and staff tried to escape by taking cover in nearby bushes. However, 20-year-old Frempong sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was critically injured.
He was later shifted for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Other players and staff members aboard the bus reportedly remained unharmed.
Authorities are investigating the incident, while the football community in Ghana has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the young player.
