ISLAMABAD: A large number of tourists, including foreigners, have standard in Gilgit-Baltistan after flooding rivers swept away two bridges on Karakorum Highway.
Local officials said that the two bridges were swept away in Feena village of Astore district in Gilgit-Baltistan. After the collapse of the bridges, the tourists visiting different areas such as Hunza, Gilgit, Nagar and other areas are reported to have been standard.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority to take steps for the safety of the tourists. The Prime Minister also directed the authorities concerned to make temporary arrangements to link the cutoff village of Feena with other parts on region.
The Prime Minister was informed in a report submitted by the National Disaster Management Authority that the foreign tourists visiting Gilgit-Baltistan were safe and efforts were being made to shift them to their destinations via helicopters.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Meterological Department has issued an alert about fresh spell of monsoon rains in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh from today.
There is also an alert about flash flouring and urban flooding in low lying areas of Punjab and Sindh. The government departments have been directed to mobilize machinery and shift people living along the rivers to safer places.
