SYDNEY: Former Australian cricket captain and coach Bob Simpson has passed away at the age of 89. According to Australian media, Cricket Australia expressed deep sorrow and condolences on his death.
Simpson began his cricketing career in 1957, which spanned over two decades. During this time, he represented Australia in 62 Test matches, scoring 4,869 runs, including 10 centuries and 27 half-centuries. One of the highlights of his career was a remarkable innings of 311 runs. In addition, he took 110 catches and claimed 71 wickets.
Bob Simpson captained Australia in 39 Test matches and served as the national team’s coach from 1986 to 1996. Over four decades, he remained a highly influential figure in Australian cricket.
