ISLAMABAD: Former Director General of the ISI, Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed, has filed an appeal against the sentence handed down by a military court.

His lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, told media that the appeal against the Field General Court Martial’s decision had been submitted to the relevant forum.

Faiz Hameed was convicted on December 11 by the military court on four charges and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. The charges reportedly included leaking official secrets, involvement in political activities, abuse of authority, and causing harm to others.

Under the Pakistan Army Act, an appeal must be filed within 40 days of the sentence, after which the case proceeds to the Court of Appeals.

The initial review of the appeal is conducted under a senior officer, typically a Major General or higher, while the Army Chief has the authority to uphold, reduce, or cancel the sentence. Historically, military appeals have sometimes taken several years to resolve.

According to ISPR, Faiz Hameed’s Field General Court Martial proceedings began in August 2024 and lasted 15 months. The military spokesperson also noted that certain political activity-related matters are being handled separately.
