Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Released from Israeli Custody

ISLAMABAD: Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad, who was detained by Israeli forces during the Samud Flotilla humanitarian mission to Gaza, has been released, Pakistani officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the development on the social media platform X, stating that former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad has been released. He is safe and in good health at the Pakistan Embassy in Amman. The embassy is fully prepared to assist him in returning to Pakistan in line with his wishes.

Dar expressed his gratitude to friendly nations for their support and acknowledged their active role and cooperation with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in securing Ahmad’s release.

Mushtaq Ahmad was part of the Samud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy aiming to deliver aid to the besieged people of Gaza. The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces, and several participants were detained.

According to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, the released individuals were transported through the Hussein Bridge as part of coordinated arrangements to ensure their safe return.

The group included citizens from Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan, Türkiye, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Serbia, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.
