ISLAMABAD: Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has announced the formation of a new political party named Pakistan Rights Movement.

He called for constitutional governance, social justice, and an end to elite dominance in the country.

Speaking at the party’s founding ceremony held at a private hotel in Islamabad, Mushtaq Ahmed said the new party would operate strictly under the principles of the 1973 Constitution, which recognizes the sovereignty of Allah and guarantees Islamic values. The event was attended by party leaders, workers, supporters, and members of civil society.

He stated that ordinary citizens are being deprived of their fundamental rights and that Pakistan Rights Movement aims to serve all segments of society on the basis of equality. The party’s key objectives include social and economic justice, affordable and swift justice, freedom of expression, access to education and healthcare, elimination of poverty and corruption, and an end to extrajudicial killings and prolonged military operations.

Criticizing the current parliamentary system, Mushtaq Ahmed described it as “artificial” and said that restrictions on journalism and freedom of expression have worsened national problems. He highlighted unemployment, inflation, food insecurity, drug abuse, environmental pollution, and corruption as major challenges facing the country.

The former senator also criticized defense spending, elite monopolies, payments to independent power producers (IPPs), youth marginalization, and human trafficking. He stressed that public representatives, assemblies, and local jirgas should be consulted before any military operation.

Mushtaq Ahmed further urged the armed forces to remain neutral in political matters, emphasized the need to secure national borders, and called for capable and honest leadership to guide the country in the right direction.
