Fostering education, technology vital for women empowerment

Two-day conference on breaking barriers, building bridges organized by Shaheed Benazir University Bhutto Women University concludes in Peshawar.

PESHAWAR: A two-day conference “Breaking barriers, building bridges: uniting women’s voices for a better world” was organized by Shaheed Benazir University Bhutto Women University, Peshawar.

Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir University Bhutto Women University Peshawar, spoke about the objectives of the conference one of which she said was to unite making the voices of women stronger.
Dr Farhana Khursheed, Associate Professor from Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, said fostering education, integrating it with technology and empowering youth would lead to boundless rewards.
Prof. Dr Hussain Shaheed Sohorwardi spoke with reference to Afghan women. He affirmed that enhancing skills and education of Afghan women would have positive impact on economy of Pakistan and on international impression.
Ihsan from Afghan Commissionorate said academia can play an important role in empowering women, particularly Afghan women in KP by giving them scholarships and support.

Shahzada Masoodul Mulk, the CEO of SRSP, appreciated the organizers for holding the conference and said it was a great initiative to talk about women empowerment.
Mr Kofi, Head of UNHCR, stated that if an Afghan woman learns skills they will lead respectful life in Pakistan and post-repatriation would contribute well in their state’s economy. He said engaging private sector and self-employment can raise the level of women empowerment.
Chief guest Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali shed light on how Islam empowered women in the era of Jahiliya. Therefore, he said we should not forget our past and should design our society and empower our women.
