PESHAWAR: Four people were killed and several others injured in a firing and stampede at a peace march in Bannu district on Friday. Thousands of people took part in the peace rally against terror incidents in the district and the region.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister of Public Health Pakhtoon Yar Khan narrowly escaped a bullet during the incident. A rescue vehicle was also damaged. The injured people were taken to the district headquarters hospital, where the conditions of some were stated to be critical.

The massive rally was staged by thousands of locals protesting against the recent wave of terrorism. The demonstrators observed a wheel jam strike, leading to the shutdown of all government offices as part of their protest against terrorism and the potential for a military operation in the area. The protesters voice their concerns over the worsening law and order situation in the area, and demanded that the government take immediate measures to restore peace and security in the region.

Thousands of people took to the streets of Bannu city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to protest against terrorism in the district and region. The recent terrorist incident in Bannu district has raised concerns about the security of the province. Local residents expressed frustration, noting that they often suffer financial losses whenever such incidents occur.

A video circulating on social media platforms, including X and Facebook, shows thousands of people taking to the streets carrying white flags, a symbol of peace, and chanting slogans against terrorism. PTI leader, who is an MNA from Lakki Marwat, an adjacent district of Bannu, posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption that he feels deep sorrow and condemns the recent shootings against peaceful protestors.

“Watching this video, I feel deep, sorrow, and condemn the recent shootings against peaceful protestors in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is disheartening to witness such brutality inflicted upon innocent Pakistanis, exercising their fundamental right to peaceful protest. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have tragically lost their lives, and I pray for the families’ strength and solace during this difficult time.

Albeit, it is imperative that these occurances are halted, resolved with urgency and justice, however to do so, and in the face of such oppression, collective agitation and steadfast resistance are much needed to bring the revolution in Pakistan once for all,” Sher Afzal Marwat said on his official X handle.

The people of Bannu sent a clear message to terrorists and their facilitators: they will not tolerate any more bombings or operations in their land. The march culminated in a peaceful sit-in at the Bannu Sports Complex, showcasing the unity and resolve of the city’s residents.
