Four NADRA officials held for issuing CNICs to Afghans

Suspects included foreigners in family trees of drug addicts and issued them identity cards, says FIA.

ISLAMABAD: Four officers of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) have been arrested on the charge of issuingĀ  Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Afghan nationals.

The arrests were made by the cybercrime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). A spokesman for the agency identified the officers as Adnan, Tahir, Amir Khan and Tayab.

They were posted as assistant director and executive at the NADRA mega center.

They allegedly issued CNICs to Afghan nationals by including them in the family trees of local people after recording their biometrics in 2019 and 2020.

The arrested officers used to show addicts and laborers as fathers of the foreigners to issue them the CNICs.

By issuing the identity cards to foreigners, they received a handsome amount of money from them, the spokesman said, adding further investigation was underway
