G20 Summit Urges Just Resolution of World Conflicts

JOHANNESBURG: The two-day G20 Leaders’ Summit opened in Johannesburg, South Africa, where member states issued a joint communiqué calling for a fair, just, and lasting resolution to the ongoing conflicts in Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In the statement released after the first day of deliberations, G20 nations reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively, under the principles of the United Nations Charter, to advance comprehensive and enduring peace in all four conflict zones.

The declaration also underscored the global importance of protecting the supply of critical minerals from disruptions arising due to escalating geopolitical tensions, particularly in regions rich in natural resources.

This year’s summit was notably boycotted by the United States, while key global figures—including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other world leaders—were in attendance and actively participated in the discussions.

The 2025 G20 Summit is held under the theme “Unity, Equality, and Sustainability,” marking the first-ever occasion that South Africa has hosted the high-profile gathering.
