PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur chaired a high-level Apex Committee meeting on Wednesday to review the worsening security situation in the merged tribal districts, particularly Bajaur, Khyber, and North Waziristan.
The meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat was attended by senior military and civil officials, including Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Omer Ahmad Bukhari, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, and legislators from affected areas.
The forum discussed recent terrorist incidents and paid tribute to martyred civilians and security personnel. Emphasis was placed on public trust, better coordination, and targeted operations to combat militancy without displacing civilians.
Unity and Targeted Action
Speaking afterward, CM Gandapur stressed that peace in the merged districts is essential for development and stability. He warned of attempts by hostile forces to destabilize Pakistan and urged citizens to identify and reject terrorist facilitators.
“Terrorists hide among civilians to provoke backlash and divide communities from the state. This must not succeed,” he said, urging people to treat security forces as partners, not outsiders.
Jirgas to Shape Local Strategy
From August 2, the government will launch divisional-level Jirgas with tribal elders and stakeholders to gather input for a provincial strategy. A grand Jirga will follow to finalize the plan.
The Chief Minister also dismissed rumors about provincial mineral resources being handed over, calling them misinformation aimed at sowing distrust.
“We are united in this fight,” Gandapur declared. “With sincerity and public support, we will defeat terrorism.”
