WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that his plan for Gaza was workable, but he was not going to implement it by force.
According to a foreign news agency, President Trump claimed that his plan to occupy the Gaza Strip can “really work”, but he would not impose it by force.
In an interview with Fox News Radio, Trump said, “I think that’s the plan that really works, but I’m not imposing it, I’m just proposing it.”
Trump expressed surprise at Jordan and Egypt’s opposition to his proposal, saying, “We pay Jordan and Egypt billions of dollars a year, and I was a little surprised by their response.”
He claimed that if the people of Gaza were given the choice to stay in Gaza or move to a better place, they would leave Gaza.
President Trump described Gaza’s location as wonderful and wondered why Israel had abandoned it. “It’s a great place, I don’t know why Israel left this place, why they did this?”
Trump recently said that the United States will occupy the Gaza Strip, and will own it. He said the aim was to bring stability to the region and create thousands of jobs.
Following Trump’s announcement, the United Nations and many countries around the world opposed the eviction of Palestinians from Gaza and urged a two-state solution to resolve the Middle East conflict.
