LAHORE: The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 3 percent increase in freight fares across the country following the hike in petroleum product prices announced by the federal government.
Speaking to media, Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan strongly criticized the federal government’s decision to raise fuel prices, calling it unjustified and harmful to the public.
He stated that the increase in petroleum prices directly raises operational costs for the transport sector, making a fare hike unavoidable.
“When fuel becomes expensive, transportation expenses rise immediately, and transporters are left with no option but to revise freight rates,” he said.
Awan further claimed that the policies of both the federal and Punjab governments have placed transporters under severe financial pressure. He alleged that authorities were not taking serious steps to address the challenges faced by the sector.
The fare adjustment is expected to impact the cost of goods transportation nationwide, potentially contributing to further price increases in essential commodities.
